About the Founder of Aegin Place® - Zach Sahker
The development of innovative concepts and programs are not haphazard occurrences. New ideas emanate from immersion in both practical and academic application and pursuit. As a director of community based treatment programs, youth service bureaus and alternatives to hospitalization, Zach Sahker has continued to bring compassionate and cost effective human service programming to the not for profit and private marketplace. As a university professor he developed employee assistance programs, day care centers in rural Georgia and initiated courses in public health that set record enrollments. As the commissioner of aging and adult services for the state of Colorado, he has worked to further the interests of those older adults who have limited access to the health care system. As producer and host of a weekly public television program, Senior Survival, Zach has focused on public education and analysis of issues and programming available in the community. While serving as the manager of cost containment for a major health insurer he worked to establish Private Health Care Systems (PHCS) the largest PPO network in the country, a consortium of 17 health insurance companies. Over the past decade Sahker has managed the western region for the National Education Association's (NEA) member benefits long term care insurance program.
It has been this experience that fostered the introduction of Aegin Place®, a live in care giving program that places companions in the homes of older adults as an alternative to traditional nursing homes and assisted living facilities. As a cost effective alternative, it has allowed older adults the capability of remaining at home and "aging in place". Sahker's efforts are now focused on national franchising of the concept.^
